Every product that enters Indonesia must comply with Indonesian government regulations, the purpose of this is to meet safety standards.
Law No. 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection article 7 states that "Business actors are obliged to guarantee the quality of goods and/or services produced and/or traded based on the provisions of applicable quality standards for goods and/or services". Law No.20 of 2014 concerning Standardization and Conformity Assessment also explains that Conformity Assessment activities are carried out through testing, inspection, and/or certification (Testing, Inspection, Certification / TIC).
The Indonesian government created an institution that deals with certification called BSN (non-ministry), its main task is to develop, foster and coordinate all standardization and conformity assessment activities in Indonesia. This body establishes the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) which is used as a technical standard in Indonesia.
KAN (Non-structural Institution) under BSN, KAN has the task of establishing accreditation in various types of organizations such as laboratories, certification bodies, testing bodies, and inspection bodies. and provide consideration and advice to BSN in establishing an accreditation and certification system.
KAN is an accreditation body that carries out its activities in accordance with the international standard ISO / IEC 17011 as a professional accreditation body.
LS Pro (Product certification body), is a third party LPK (conformity assessment body) that operates a product certification scheme to provide written assurance that an Item, Process or Service has met Standards and/or regulations. LSPro designation is carried out by BSN, given to certification activities from a certification body that has been accredited by KAN for a similar scope and meets the requirements of LSPro Designation.
